How to Survive a Long Road Trip

For this past weekend, I went on a road trip with my family from NY to DC and back over only three straight days. Even on the best of days, this trip can take about 5 hours each way; for us, it was about 7 hours each way with traffic.

1. Try to take a train or BoltBus. While it isn't always possible, try to take advantage when you can! Going on a train or bus gives everyone the option to relax and/or sleep. You also don't need to worry about parking at your destination!

2. Pack snacks and drinks that aren't your favorites! I don't know about you, but if I packed Doritos Sweet Chilis or Peanut Chews, they would probably last about 2 hours. By bringing healthier snack food, like corn rice 'rollers' or apples, you will only grab snacks when you are truly hungry.

3. Create a great playlist to get everyone pumped for those last few hours. If you are ever next to a car full of people singing Broadway cast recordings at the top of their lungs, I just might be in it! For more general tunes, don't forget to add some old-school Britney Spears or one-hit wonders!

Happy travels!
