When I was in high school, I was lucky enough to go to a summer program in marine biology in South Florida. I love science and the ocean, so it seemed like it could be a great career fit. Well, it turns out that I can't tell one fish from another real well...
But I did learn another important thing that summer: happiness comes from within. I distinctly remember a graduate student in the program telling us about his year-long project in Hawaii and Australia: "tons of sunblock", "1-2 hours a day in front of the computer", and "a lot of equipment fixes".
I know that no job is perfect, but it was clear that no amount of happiness would have made him happy. He was working at a top university for his field on his own projects in areas many people vacation!
Count your blessings, rather than your grievances.
