- I was really looking forward to Empty Mansions, the story about a reclusive millionaire heiress. With access to gorgeous homes in New York and Santa Barbara, Haguette Clark spends her last 20 years in a hospital. In her will, she gives a suspiciously large amount of money to her nurse and counsel. Sounds awesome, right? Unfortunately, I think the writing gets a bit too one-sided. When I finished, I got the sense that the entire book could have been summarized in about 10 pages. (In comparison, the Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks packed in so much detail and information!
- I am obsessed with the latest recording of The Last Five Years with Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan. L5Y is one of my favorite musicals of all time, and the original version (Norbert Leo Butz and Sherie Rene Scott) is etched in my memory. To be honest, I felt like this would be a huge bomb. The latest off-Broadway cast of L5Y make my ears hurt, Anna Kendrick is very hit or miss for me, and Jeremy Jordan's part in Smash was honestly cringey (Hit List, anyone?). Luckily, the recording is amazing and I can't wait to see it in the theater! The changes in this cast really work for me, and I kind of want to play them all back to back together like a crazy person.
